The Malaysia supply standard is 230 volts with a tolerance of +10%, -6% ie. the voltage range can be 253 volts to 216.2 volts. Loads losses are generally reduced by operating modem at rated Voltage. Generally equipment manufactured for the world markets is designed to run at 220/230 volts. Therefore, in some cases equipment is being run at a higher voltage ie. 250 V than necessary and this can lead to wasted energy.

World’s biggest investor in renewable energy source

NANNING: China has become the world’s biggest investor in renewable energy sources, said a senior environmental official during a forum here.
China invested over 300bil yuan in renewable energy sources last year, outranking every other country, said Wang Yuqing, deputy director of the Committee of Population, Resources and Environment of the CPPCC National Committee.
The official of China’s top advisory body estimated that more than 3,000 billion yuan would be poured into industries related to environmental protection from this year to 2015.
Issues relating to the environment and resources were becoming more urgent in China, as the world’s second-largest economy was currently on its fast track to industrialisation, said Wang.
The Chinese’s government was now fully aware that China must develop its economy in a green way, and was striving to nurture green industries, Wang added. — Xinhua

Electricity is the most important form of energy available today. It is used to run practically all equipment in homes and offices. It is surprising yet true that even when we think, we are not consuming electricity we are still consuming it. The "stand by mode" is a big time culprit.
Stand by Mode
The stand by mode is that state of an electronic device where it is between fully off and fully on. The device according to us is switched off, but in reality, it is not. It consumes energy to maintain itself on the stand by mode. It can be said that the device is in a state where it is ready to be switched on; it is waiting for a command from the remote control. To continuously search for the remote, it consumes power. T.V. sets, computer systems, cordless telephones are some of the devices which have the standby mode. To actually switch it off, the plug should be removed from the socket. In the stand by mode, it wastes energy.
The problem with the standby mode is not that the devices consume too much electricity, the problem is that there are too many devices that are consuming electricity on the standby mode. As per reports of the IEA (International Energy Association) in a typical European, Japanese, Australian and North American home, an average of twenty devices are continuously on in stand by mode. As per the same reports “Standby power is responsible for 5-10% of total electricity use in most homes and an unknown amount in commercial buildings and factories. Standby power is responsible for roughly 1% of global carbon dioxide emissions.”
This energy is also referred to by several other names such as vampire power, parasitic power

The new solar roof spanning Blackfriars Railway Bridge above the River Thames will cover more than 6,000 square meters when finished, according to developers.
Over 4,400 individual photovoltaic panels are expected to produce around 900,000 kilowatt hours of electricity every year, providing the station with half of its energy needs, according to Solar Century, the UK company installing the solar roof.
Annual CO2 emissions are also expected to be reduced by more than 500 tons.
Constructed in the age of steam, we're bringing (the station) bang up to date with 21st century solar technology...

"It's fantastic to see this project finally come to fruition. Blackfriars Bridge is an ideal location for solar," Derry Newman, chief executive of Solar Century, said in a statement.
"For people to see that solar power is working is a vital step towards a clean energy future," he added.
Built in 1886, the railway bridge is being transformed as part of an upgrade by Network Rail -- the owner and operator of rail infrastructure in the UK -- to the existing Blackfriars station.
"The Victorian rail bridge at Blackfriars is part of our railway history. Constructed in the age of steam, we're bringing it bang up to date with 21st century solar technology to create an iconic station for the city," Lindsay Vamplew, Network Rail's project director for Blackfriars said in a statement.
In addition to the solar panels (manufactured by the SANYO Electric Co. Ltd), the station will also include rain-harvesting systems and sun pipes for natural lighting.
The solar roof and the new station are due to be completed by the summer of 2012.
